Lock Bumping is a lock
opening technique that has been around since the 1950's. For years I
have considered the consequences of educating people on this
technique, trying to avoid educating the wrong type of people. With
the advent of the internet and the information age upon us now, I
get more phone calls from clients who want "Bump Proof" locks on
their homes or businesses. Without giving too much away I will try
to explain what is going on. You can buy on the internet (as well as
from some so called professional Locksmith shops), a group of milled
down key blanks that when bumped with a mallet or other device will
make the tumblers bounce inside the lock in a manner that separates
the top pins from the bottom pins enough so the lock can be opened.
This technique can be achieved rather quickly on most standard
locksets. The good news is this is easily preventable.

Our high security cylinders can not be Bumped!
There are several different
methods to prevent your locks from being compromised. First, you can
install high security locks or convert your existing locks with a
high security conversion cylinder. We have several different models
available. These locks can not be bumped, or picked for that matter.
The only issue with this is the cost. The locks range from $60.00 up
to $150.00 each. Now for a lot of people this just isn't an option.
So we have designed a way to retrofit your existing locks to resist
bumping or picking, by implementing larger variances in the cuts of
the keys, installing spool drivers and varying the tumbler springs
between the standard brass springs to stainless springs. The
differences in spring tension prevent the pins from separating in
the chambers and make it extremely difficult for them to be
compromised in this matter. The best part is the cost is very
affordable! Feel free to call for more
information.
